StepLink Terms of Use
Last updated: 5 October 2026
StepLink counts your steps and shows them on leaderboards in groups you choose to join. These terms are the agreement between you and the person who runs it.
The short version: use it as yourself, be civil to the people in your groups, and don't treat the step count as a medical instrument. What happens to your data is a separate document — the Privacy Policy.

By creating an account or using the app you accept these terms. If you don't accept them, don't create an account.
2. What StepLink is — and isn't
StepLink reads the step count your phone or watch has already recorded and shows it to you and to the groups you join. It is a motivational tool, not a medical device.
Step counts come from Apple Health, Health Connect, Samsung Health, Google or Garmin, depending on what you connect. Those sources estimate — they disagree with each other, they miss steps, and they occasionally count some that weren't yours. StepLink shows what it is given, so don't use it for anything medical, clinical or otherwise serious without checking the number against something that is meant for that.
3. Your account
- You must be at least 16 to have an account.
- One account per person, and it is yours: don't share it or let anyone else sign in as you.
- Keep the sign-in method behind it secure — your Google or Apple account, or the password you set. Anyone who can sign in can see and change your data.
- Your display name and step counts are visible to every member of every group you join. Pick a name you are happy for them to see.
4. Using StepLink fairly
Don't:
- Fake step data — by shaking the phone at a machine, feeding synthetic data into the health source, or any other means. Leaderboards only work if the numbers mean something.
- Impersonate someone, or use a display name or group name that is abusive, hateful or someone else's identity.
- Harass other members, or use a group to do it.
- Attack, probe, scrape or reverse-engineer the service, or use it through anything other than the official app.
Group admins decide who is in their group. We don't moderate what members say to each other inside one, but we will act on a report of the behaviour above.
5. Free use, ads and the subscription
StepLink is free to use and shows advertisements. A subscription removes them; what it costs and how long it runs is shown in the app before you buy.
- Payment, renewal and cancellation are handled entirely by the App Store or Google Play, under their terms — not by us. We never see your card.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, which you do in your store account settings, not in StepLink.
- Refunds are the store's to give. Your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.
- Prices can change. A change applies from the next renewal, and the store tells you before it takes effect.
6. What you add
Group names, display names and anything else you type stay yours. You give us permission to store them and show them to the people who can see them — the members of your groups — for as long as you keep the account. Nothing you add is sold, licensed on, or used to advertise to anyone.
7. Availability and changes
StepLink is run by one person. It can be unavailable for maintenance, because a step source changed its API, or because something broke. Features can change or be removed, and the app can require an update to keep working.
We'll give notice in the app before a change that materially affects you, where it is possible to do so.
8. Ending it
You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account → Delete Account, or at steplink.net/delete-account. It is immediate and permanent — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what goes.
We can suspend or close an account that breaks section 4, and will say why unless there is a legal reason not to. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a store subscription; cancel that in the store.
9. What we promise, and what we don't
The app is provided as it is. We don't promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the step counts are accurate — see section 2.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost data, or for decisions taken on the basis of a step count. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or anything else that cannot be limited by law — and if you are a consumer, your mandatory rights under the law of the country you live in are unaffected by anything in this document.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by Estonian law. If you are a consumer, you can also rely on the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, and bring a claim in its courts.
11. Changes to these terms
Material changes are announced in the app before they take effect. The date at the top of this page shows the current version; continuing to use StepLink after a change means you accept it.
